Located on the left side at the entrance to Alcitepe, this museum is the oldest and most comprehensive museum in the region. Salim Mutlu, the son of an immigrant family, began collecting objects related to the war in the fields and surrounding villages while working as a grocer. Over time, he transformed this passion into a museum in a corner of his grocery store and later in his home.
This museum is quite interesting in its story. Salim Mutlu, after whom the museum is named, was originally a shopkeeper who ran a grocery store in this area. During this time, he began collecting remnants of wars from fields and surrounding villages. However, the villagers at the time preferred to collect these objects and sell them as scrap. Salim Mutlu's inclination quickly turned into a great passion, and the objects in his possession reached an incredible level in a short time.
Salim Mutlu, who was also the child of a family with immigrant roots, transformed a part of his grocery store into a small and charming museum. It continued as a grocery store and a museum for a long time.
The pieces collected here were given to the museum, which is now located in Kabatepe. When Salim Mutlu passed away in 2004, his children took over the responsibility of the museum.
These historical and exciting objects, displayed in large halls, largely consist of personal belongings of Turkish and enemy forces. Cannonballs, scattered fragments, and soldiers' uniforms are also displayed in this boutique museum.
A large monument made of shell casings greets you right at the entrance. Many important photographs from the Gallipoli Campaign are shared within the museum. Visiting the Alcitepe Salim Mutlu Museum will give you the chance to see another dimension of the war.
The old name of the village it belongs to is Kirte. After visiting the museum, you can also explore the beauties of this village if you wish. The population of this village is largely made up of immigrants who arrived after 1934. The Alcitepe Salim Mutlu Museum has the distinction of being the first private museum established on the Gallipoli Peninsula.
