Located 4.5 km north of Eceabat, on the southern slopes of Tasli Tepe, the village of Bigali and its surroundings, also known as "Camyayla" and "Bogali," served as the headquarters of the 19th Division in April 1915. The house where Mustafa Kemal Ataturk stayed as a guest during this time, later known as the "Ataturk House and Museum," has become one of the important tourist attractions in the Historical Area.
Appointed to the 19th Division, which was established before the Battle of Canakkale, on February 1, 1915, Staff Lieutenant Colonel Mustafa Kemal formed his division in a very short time and moved to Eceabat on February 25 and to the Bigali region on March 24. Ataturk used this house as his headquarters for 15 days in 1915 and prepared his attack plans here. The house was officially transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1973 and transformed into a Museum House. Restoration work was restarted by the Canakkale Wars Gallipoli Historical Area Directorate in February 2017, and it was opened to visitors on August 10, 2018.
This house, which was used as the division headquarters and belonged to the village headman of the time, Bigali Huseyin Aga, is two-story and built in the Baghdad style. The house is entered through an inner courtyard that was added later.
The museum, restored in accordance with modern museology principles, chronologically depicts Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's participation in the Battle of Canakkale, his duties, and activities through surreal mannequins. In addition, the museum displays items representing daily life of the period, as well as personal belongings and uniforms believed to belong to Mustafa Kemal.
