Pehlivanköy - Pehlivankoy - Павлово - Πεχλιβάνκιοϊ
Pehlivankoy is an agricultural city established around the Ergene River. The city, founded by the Thracians, became an important agricultural center with the opportunities provided by the river. Wetlands contributed to the development of rice production in the district. In the districts of Kirklareli, cattle and sheep breeding are an important source of income for the city.
Pehlivankoy generally has the same problems as other settlements in Thrace. However, the most important of these is the pollution of the Ergene River, which passes through the city center. This situation has a great negative impact on agricultural production, social life and therefore the development of the city. Cleaning the river will make a very important contribution to the development of the district.
Pehlivankoy has a history dating back to a very early period. The fact that historical places have not been sufficiently protected and their surroundings do not have an environmental order is a significant obstacle to the interest of these assets. The city, which has many ruins and stories from the Thracians to the Ottomans, has the potential to be a stopping point for tourists in Thrace, although it is not a touristic center on its own.
The animal fair, which is held in September and has a history of more than 100 years, and the Hidirellez Festival, which is held regularly every year, are important traditions of Pehlivankoy.
It is located 20 kilometers from the D-100 highway and 62 kilometers from the city center. It is famous for its district fair, formerly known as Pavli. All Thracians know the "Pavli Fair" of this district. It is a very old settlement and the exact date of the district's founding is unknown.
Previously a sub-district center affiliated with Babaeski, a municipal organization was established in 1948 and it became a district in 1957.
Pehlivankoy was built on a flat and even terrain. Its altitude is 25 meters above sea level, and its summers are hot and dry, and its winters are cold and rainy.
1960 Constituent Assembly member and Kırklareli Deputy Abdurrahman Altug and the famous poet Ulug Turanoglu were raised here. A significant portion of the people living in the district center came as immigrants from the Balkans during the 1877-78 Ottoman-Russian War (93 War) and settled here.
