Saray - Saray - Сарай - Σαράι
One of the most important surface water resources of Thrace, Ergene River, originates from the south of Istranca Mountains within the borders of Saray district. It is the only region where Ergene flows cleanly. It is a forest and agricultural city with its black pine forests, being a gateway to the Black Sea and fertile agricultural lands. At the same time, its proximity to Cerkezkoy and Corlu has led to the formation of some industry in the city.
Saray district is a tourism paradise that unfortunately receives very few visitors, has not been landscaped and has not yet been discovered, with ruins from the old stone age, Kastro Region under protection, coastline where green meets blue, Yildiz Mountains, black pine forests and other historical and natural beauties.
The district's proximity to Istanbul is one of the important advantages that should be turned into benefits. The fact that students of the Vocational School located in the district can live in Istanbul and go to school provides one of the most important clues about this feature that can be used in ensuring the development of the city.
The district of Saray is surrounded by the Black Sea and Kirklareli to the north, Istanbul to the east, Kapakli to the south and Ergene to the west.
The distance to the city center is 82 km. The elevation of the district is 140 m.
The district center of Saray is an interesting point geographically. Built on a flat area, most of the district's land is located in the Ergene Basin. The part from the district center to the Black Sea is mountainous and forested. The land extends upwards towards the Yildiz (Istranca) Mountains in the northeast. The highest point of the district is Karatepe (480 m) on the Yildiz Mountains.
Three important branches of the Ergene River, the lifeblood of Thrace, rise in Saray. The most important of these, Ergene Creek, rises from the springs of Ergene Grove at the borders of Kavacik Village, where the Tekirdag-Kirklareli border meets. The other two rivers are the Vize River and the Galata Stream. While the Vize River joins the Ergene River outside the district, the Galata Stream passes east of the Saray district and reaches the Ergene River in the Kapakli district. Of the district's land, 314,895 decares constitute usable agricultural land, while forests and shrubland cover 255,665 decares.
The only black pine forest in Thrace is found in the Saray Kastro region. For this reason, the 329 hectare black pine forest in the Kastro region was designated as a nature conservation area (National Park) on April 18, 1988. The Yildiz Mountains (Istranca) are forested. Of the broad-leaved trees, oak and black pine dominate these forests. "Bahcekoy" is one of the important forest enterprises in the region.
Known as Kastro in the Black Sea region, its new name is Camlikoy, a place with tourism potential with its 1450 m coastline, fine beach, streams, and forests. Laladere forest picnic and recreation area is one of the most important values of the district with its magnificent natural beauty.
A continental climate prevails in the district and its immediate surroundings. It also has symptoms of the Black Sea climate. Winters are cold and rainy, while summers are hot and dry. The average annual temperature is 13.8 C, with temperatures rising to 23.3 C in July and 4.4 C in January. The average annual humidity is 76%. The average relative humidity, which increases in the winter months, decreases in the summer months. Total precipitation in the region varies between 200-300 mm in winter, 100-150 mm in spring, and 50-100 mm in summer. The average annual precipitation is 678.2 mm.
