Truffles collected by forest villagers in the Saray district of Tekirdag are processed and exported abroad.
Truffles grown in the oak forests of the Saray district are processed by companies in the region and delivered to tables worldwide. Growing in the roots of oak trees at a depth of 5 to 20 centimeters, the truffle stands out with its aroma and flavor and commands high prices in international cuisines.
Truffles, which are quite difficult to find and collect in nature, are an important source of income for forest villagers and contribute to the regional economy. The collected mushrooms are processed and packaged before being exported, generating foreign currency for the country.
Tekirdag Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmet Aksoy also visited the facility in the Saray district and examined the work being done on-site.
