Haskovo is a city located in central Southern Bulgaria. It is the fastest and most direct route connecting Europe to Asia and the Middle East. Located close to the Turkish and Greek borders, Haskovo has become a center of international trade and cultural exchange. These indicators make Haskovo and the region an attractive destination for industrial development in the fields of construction and mechanical engineering, food production, chemical industry, wine production, food, beverage, and tobacco production, and the sewing and textile industries.
Culture and tourism hold a significant place in Haskovo. Every year, the city hosts the international festivals Beautiful Thracian Songs and Dances, the Nedyalka Simeonova music days, the Bulgarian folk and dance festival Hajdushka Sofraya, the first national literary competition Southern Spring, and many other events.
Haskovo boasts one of the most impressive Thracian tombs, the Tomb of Alexander. An integral part of the city is the world's tallest statue of the Virgin Mary and Jesus.
Haskoo is located on the hilly plains of southeastern Bulgaria and occupies the westernmost part of Haskovo District. It occupies a strategic position between the Rhodope Mountains and the Balkan Mountains, close to the borders of Turkey and Greece. The fastest and most direct route connecting Europe to Asia and the Middle East passes through Haskovo District.
The city is 227 km from the capital Sofia, 97 km from Plovdiv, 354 km from Varna, and 212 km from Burgas.
Haskoo's climate is temperate continental with a strong Mediterranean influence. Winters are cold, but not always snowy. Summers are hot and relatively dry due to the Black Sea influence. The average annual temperature is 12°C. In February, a strong wind often blows, causing the fruit trees to bloom early. Afterward, the cold scorches the blossoms, leaving a poor or non-existent harvest throughout the year.
