Features such as the port's artificial reefs and battle tanks have increased visitor numbers by 30 percent, making the area popular.
Ibrice Port, the pearl of the Gulf of Saros, is on its way to becoming a center for underwater sports.
The underwater richness off the coast of İbrice Port attracts more diving enthusiasts to the region every year.
The battle tank sunk 500 meters off the port this year and the artificial reefs are among the most popular diving sites.
The region, home to 144 fish, 78 marine plants, and 34 species of sponge, hosts approximately 120,000 underwater enthusiasts annually.
Diving tourism is developing in the region with the facilities built by the Edirne Governorate in and around the port and new investments.
"Local tourists have especially come in large numbers this year."
Ozkan Arsu, the Edirne Representative of the Turkish Underwater Sports Federation, told an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter that investments in the port have increased interest in underwater sports.
He noted that the number of visitors increased by 30 percent compared to last year. Arsu noted the following:
"The Gulf of Saros is in a region close to Istanbul. It attracts people because it is a self-cleaning gulf. People who come are satisfied. People who are satisfied want to come again. That's why there have been a lot of local tourists, especially this year. Because the beaches are open here. The feedback from people who are satisfied with the clean environment is very positive with the promotion."
Arsu stated that the tank, which was sunk last June, attracted the attention of diving enthusiasts.
"This season has been very busy"
Diving Center Association President Ahmet Yumurtaci also noted that the sunk tank provides an advantage for underwater sports.
Stating that the area where the tank is located is suitable for test dives, Yumurtaci said, "The tank was sunk to a depth of 10 meters. Therefore, because the upper section is between 5-6 meters, 'discovery' dives can be made very easily. We have seen the incredible effect of this over a long period. This season has been very busy. There is still diving demand, and we are trying to meet it." he said.
