It was in these words that Mustafa Kemal, convening the Council of Ministers in July 1924, expressed his desire to establish a national bank. Thus, Is Bankasi—the Republic of Turkey's first national bank—was founded on August 26, 1924, in accordance with the decisions reached at the First Izmir Economic Congress and under Ataturk's directives.
