Uskup - Üsküp - Скопе - Σκοπός
The history of Uskup dates back to ancient times; in the 7th century BC, it was captured by the Scythians, who established a state along the Danube and the Northern Black Sea. The place, then called - Scythian - Yuzkup - gradually came to be known as "Uskup."
It is also noted that the name Uskup means "Watch Post, Watch Hill." It is known that Uskup was first established in the region of Hisarcik Castle. During the Byzantine period, the Ayayorgi Monastery was also built here. Drinking water for Krasua Uskup Town is supplied from a spring near the castle. It is known that Roman Emperor Caesar passed through the nearby village of Sazara and inscribed "Caesar" on a fountain there.
