Seddulbahir Castle on the Gallipoli Peninsula has beaten out over 500 other projects worldwide to win an award at The International Architecture Awards 2025. The awards ceremony will take place in Athens, Greece.

Seddulbahir Castle on the Gallipoli Peninsula won an award at The International Architecture Awards 2025, one of the esteemed platforms of the architecture world.

According to the statement made by the Gallipoli Historical Site Presidency, over 500 projects from around the world were evaluated in the program organized in collaboration with Chicago-based The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Center for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.

Seddulbahir Castle stood out in this challenging selection process and was deemed worthy of the award by the jury consisting of distinguished names such as Ferrari Design Vice President Flavio Manzoni, Lithuanian architecture academician Almantas Samalavicius, Chen-Yu Chiu from Studio Cho and Sang Dae Lee from UNITEDLAB.

The award ceremony will take place on September 20 in Athens, the capital of Greece.

Prior to the ceremony, an exhibition titled "The City and the World" featuring the award-winning projects will be held on September 19 at Contemporary Space It will be presented to the world of architecture in Athens. The exhibition will remain open until October 5th.

The Seddulbahir Castle project, along with other award-winning projects, will also be included in the book "Global Design + Urbanism XXV: New International Architecture 2025", which is published annually and is an important resource for the architectural community.

Seddulbahir Castle restoration project

Seddülbahir Castle, which dates back to the Ottoman period, draws attention with its architecture that establishes a connection with the past. The structure, which was opened to visitors on March 18, 2023, was re-erected after 26 years of comprehensive academic research, archaeological excavations, architectural documentation and implementation. The project was re-functionalized with contemporary architectural principles while preserving the historical texture.

The scientific advisory board of the project includes Dr. Gulsun Tanyeli, Prof. Dr. Lucienne Thys-Senocak, Prof. Dr. Rahmi Nurhan Celik, Dr. Haluk Sesigur and Arzu Ozsavasci took part.

The architectural project was undertaken by Yusuf Burak Dolu (KOOP Architecture) and Arzu Ozsavasci (AOMTD). The implementation was carried out by ABMA Restoration.
